Although much of the moor is dominated by heather species, many other plants, trees and shrubs are present.
There are valuable areas of wetland, grassland and woodland.
Typical moorland plants such as cranberry, cowberry and crowberry provide food in season. In some of the wetter parts of the moor, lesser twayblade, bog asphodel, butterwort, marsh heleborine and sundew can be found. Elsewhere, other rare orchids and sedges thrive.
