Mammals

Fylingdales Moor is home to many mammal species. These include

  • Roe deer
  • Red fox
  • Stoat
  • Weasel
  • Badger
  • Otter
  • Brown hare
  • Noctule and Pipistrelle bats

However, we are particularly interested in monitoring the populations of smaller mammals such as mice and voles. These are an important food source for other species, some of which, like the short-eared owl, may depend almost entirely on voles for food.

Fylingdales Moor is also an important stronghold for the endangered water vole We are keeping a close eye on the population of these rodents, and ensuring that plans for conservation management will secure their future.
