Activities: The Bath & West Wilts group is active in providing advice, surveying, nest box construction and monitoring around Bath and West Wiltshire. Members can contribute to voluntary habitat management work on nature reserves, as is happening at Shapwick Moor.
The group is active at a number of important sites in and around Bath. Members have contributed to various owl surveys by the British Trust for Ornithology and continue to liaise with landowners such as the National Trust, Wessex Water and local farmers to assist in conservation schemes. Members are often pro-active in conducting surveys and erecting nestboxes. There is always more work to be done and members are encouraged to participate.
Meetings:Meetings are on the last Wednesday of each month throughout winter (October - March) with guest speakers providing illustrated talks on a range of wildlife subjects.
A small entry fee is requested to cover the cost of room hire and refreshments. Meetings are open to members and non-members. All meetings will take place at St Lukes Church Hall (off Wellsway), Bath and generally last no more than 90 minutes. There is disabled access, although parking can be tight. Details are often published through the local media or can be obtained from the secretary.
During the summer (April - September) field trips provide opportunities for members to appreciate the excitement of seeing birds of prey in the wild. Trips will be led by a Hawk and Owl Trust member with knowledge of the area, and able to offer bird identification and habitat advice.
