Activities

The group is active from Weston Super Mare to Central Bristol, across towards the A38 and down to Junction 22 of the M5. This is not a fixed area, everyone is welcome to join the activities.

Members frequently work with other local groups to co-ordinate conservation, monitoring and socialising.

Regular meetings

There are regular meetings over the winter period on the third Monday of each month, which include talks, and Owls Prowls lead by Trust conservation officer Chris Sperring. Meetings, starting at 8 pm, are at the Ship Inn, Portishead BS20 8LF, on the corner of Down Road and Hillside, a few minutes from the Police HQ in Valley Road. Meetings are held from October until the group annual meeting in April.

In summer the group exhibits at local agricultural shows, and church / village/ charity sponsored events or fetes, and arranges walks lead by members of the Trust. The group undertakes habitat management in conjunction with local landowners and contributes work parties for the Trust reserve at Shapwick Moor on the fourth Sunday each month, weather permitting. Projects for 2008 include hedge planting, ditch clearance, coppicing and surveying (birds, insects, plants and habitat.

Volunteers meet at the Natural England Avalon Car park (known too most as the Willows Café, currently closed for refurbishment ) at 9.45 am and stay as long as they can. Everyone is welcome and anyone with experience of gardening or heavier woodland working is particularly appreciated.
