South Gloucestershire Group recent activities

Back in the spring of 2007 South Gloucestershire Council came good with funding for our new show boards. With the help of Ian McGuire providing the images, they look stunning and have raised the group's image to a professional level wherever they appear.

In the last year this has ranged from the opening of the new engine facility at Rolls Royce's site at Filton to a two-day show at Dyrham Park, with over 15 other events ranging from local fetes and school days to the producers day at the Tortworth estate.

With all this activity we were finding it increasingly difficult to transport all the paraphernalia i.e. gazebos, tables etc etc, so it was decided that the group should purchase a trailer. The word went out and thanks to the group's efforts a smart little trailer was purchased. To add to this a big thanks to Mike and Caroline of Newgate Construction Ltd and J & M Decorators who sponsored us to have the trailer liveried in the Hawk and Owl Trust colours. Now every one in the street knows I'm involved with the Hawk and Owl Trust as it's parked on my drive, free advertising - Great!

In addition 2007 has seen the group's nest box team in action in a variety of places including the Berkeley Estate and Chipping Sodbury Golf Club to Mangotsfield school to name but a few. In all we now have just under two hundred boxes to look after so if you want to get involved get in touch!

The monthly meetings this past year have been a great success , despite a couple of speakers dropping out at the last moment, thanks to those who valiantly stepped into the breach. But we mustn't rest on our laurels. As you can see from the 2008 events, the quality of speakers just gets better and better, so I urge you all to come along with family and friends to support us.
