Guide to British owls and owl pellets

Owls and their pellets are the subject of a new Hawk and Owl Trust/Field Studies Council publication. It is aimed at anyone who would like to be able to pull a pellet apart and find out what the birds have been eating.

With text by Trust education and marketing manager Leanne Thomas, the laminated, full-colour guide has been designed for use as either a two-sided wallchart or an eight-page booklet.

It introduces Britain’s five resident species of owls and outlines their special characteristics and conservation measures for their survival. It illustrates the different owl pellets, as well as explaining what pellets are and how to dissect them, using pictures to identify the skulls and other bones they contain.
