The Hawk and Owl Trust's Conservation and Education Centre in Buckinghamshire is a 19th-century barn, part of Chiltern Open Air Museum’s collection of historic buildings. For schools the centre is the base for exciting cross-curricular environmental education programmes, exploring the many habitats on the site.
A striking exhibition inside the centre illustrates changes in the landscape over the centuries, showing how people’s activities have affected birds and other wildlife. Additional displays - audio and visual - give information about the ecology and conservation of birds of prey.
The Hawk and Owl Trust’s Conservation and Education Centre is at Chiltern Open Air Museum, Newland Park, Chalfont St. Giles, Buckinghamshire, HP8 4AB. 01494 876262. It is close to junction 17 of the M25 motorway. Follow signs to Maple Cross and then the brown signs to the Museum. It is also signposted from the A413 at Chalfont St Giles and Chalfont St Peter.
Birds of prey
Except for some special events, there are no captive birds at the conservation and education centre. However, the centre is set in 18 hectares of good habitat for the wild owls and other species of bird of prey, that roost and breed in nestboxes put up by the Trust.
