The education and visitor centre at Sculthorpe Moor is the base for a programme of walks, talks, courses and activity sessions for people of all ages. Imaginative displays inside the centre introduce visitors to the special wildlife habitats, plants, birds and other animals of Sculthorpe Moor, as well as its fascinating history.
The centre offers a wide range of facilities for schools and school visits.
School visits
For schools our Education and Visitor Centre at Sculthorpe Moor Community Nature Reserve, is the base for exciting cross-curricular environmental education programmes, exploring the many habitats of the reserve and the traditional working practices that are maintaining its rich ecosystem.
Specialist courses
A programme of day and weekend courses provides opportunities to learn more about plants, birds and animals or to spend time learning craft or art skills from visiting artists.
Group visits
Guided tours or activity sessions are available for groups of all ages. Evenings, weekends and weekdays are all possible.
Kestrel club
The club for young naturalists up to the age of 12 (under 8’s must be accompanied by an adult). There are monthly activity sessions exploring the wildlife off the reserve. For those who can’t get to the reserve visit Kestrel club online.
Young Rangers
An opportunity for young people between the ages of 12 and 18 to get involved in helping on the reserve. Monthly meetings helping with habitat management or surveying wildlife.
Activities and events
Throughout the year the activity programme includes a range of themed guided walks looking at wildlife on the reserve. Talks and films on a range of environmental subjects and activity sessions for families during the school holidays.

Birds of prey on Sculthorpe Moor Reserve
Except for occasional special events, there are no captive birds at the centre. However, Sculthorpe Moor is home to wild owls, marsh harriers and other birds of prey. Cameras, linked to a viewing screen inside the centre, give year-round insight into wildlife activity on the reserve, where habitats range from reeds, drainage dykes, river bank and pond to woodland.
