The webcam on the peregrine nest platform on the spire of Norwich Cathedral told a sad tale for the 2011 breeding season. Researchers reviewing webcam footage found that the egg opened just before 1.00 am on 6 June but the chick was not viable. The falcon tried to revive the chick without success. Watch the video clips to see what happened.
The live image feed was stopped later in the summer.
The first egg was laid on Easter Sunday. (See more details here or watch a video clip here.)
In a partnership between the Hawk and Owl Trust and Norwich Cathedral, and with the help of volunteers from Norwich firefighters during their time off, the Trust installed the platform in February 2011 after a pair of peregrines was observed around the city.
There was close consultation with the Cathedral’s estates manager and architect to ensure the fabric of this historic building was not damaged.
If you have enjoyed watching the peregrines and would like to help continue conservation work for birds of prey please make a donation now.
