What We Do
The Hawk and Owl Trust works to protect and conserve all wild birds of prey and their habitats, principally through:
• creating, managing and monitoring habitats
• practical research into species and habitats
• imaginative education about species and habitats
The habitat theme runs through all our work.
So, by conserving the places where owls and other wild birds of prey nest and feed, we also support many associated species - from field voles to skylarks, dragonflies to grass snakes - in a whole variety of habitats.
How We Operate
We have a small number of part-time and full time paid staff
who head up teams of dedicated volunteers from all parts of
the UK, helping with administration, creating research projects, giving talks to public and other organisations, as well as running local groups. The paid staff, including two Conservation Officers and an Education Officer, are dependant on grants and sponsorship by organisations that support us.
Our Future
The Hawk and Owl Trust has continued to evolve since it’s creation in 1969 and is dedicated to protecting and conserving all wild birds of prey.
Part of our plan for the future is to acquire areas of land where reserves for birds of prey and other wildlife can be established as flagship sites. These
reserves will be used as a focus for education on conservation and will provide safe havens for many species of owls & raptors.
